President- elect Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton.

On November 9th, Hillary Clinton officially conceded to Donald Trump, the winner of the Electoral vote. In January of 2017, Trump will officially take office after his inauguration. America is currently divided over this election. One of the reasons America is divided is because of how elections decide the winner. Trump was the Electoral winner, but he was not the popular vote winner. For these reasons, many people are concerned about the future. Here are the thoughts of other students and teachers of AHS. The majority expected Trump to win. For example, Mrs. Walker expected Trump to win, while Mrs. Pelzer was “very surprised” by his victory. Trump was able to win the electoral votes from Iowa, most likely by appealing to the working class. With such a divided country, many people remain concerned about Trump’s performance in office.

A main concern involved Trump’s current business relationships. Junior Josh Mclean said, “I think his business interests are going to get in the way of his presidency. Even though he is unloading his business ties, he’s still going to be a part of those companies, and possible even favor them”. On November 30, Trump vowed to cut his business ties, he will be begin to discuss plans to leave the Trump Organization in order to focus on his presidency.

Another key issue involved foreign relations. Many people expressed their concern over this. Mclean also shared his view stating, “Trump is a businessman, and he’ll be able to work with other countries.” Russia for example is already backing Trump, and other countries have already declared that they will work with Trump. Mexico has also stated they are open to negotiation. According to CNN Mexico’s president Enrique Peña Nieto said, “Our teams will be in touch to start designing a new work agenda… one that incorporates themes of common interest such as security, cooperation, and our society’s’ prosperity.” Foreign relations may end up being stronger than ever by the end of the Trump’s presidency.
