Trojans Win Rollin Dyer Invitational

Saturday, Jan. 9, the Atlantic High School wrestlers hosted the Rollin Dyer Invitational. The Trojans placed first in the tournament with seven wrestlers also placing first. The tournament included wrestlers from Atlantic, Humboldt, Griswold, AHSTW, Alta-Aurelia, Red Oak, Bondurant-Farrar, Denison-Schleswig, and Nodaway Valley.

Going into the final round of the tournament, Atlantic only led Humboldt by 5 points, but a strong final round with all 7 winning with bonus point victories.

In 106 weight class, sophomore Kole Hansen (22-4) defeated Cam Vanderhoof from Red Oak in the championship match. Hansen won by fall in 1:20.

The Trojans also picked up a victory in the 113 weight class. Carter Cox (12-4) came out victorious against Walter Long from Bondurant-Farrar with a fall in 5:41.

Freshman Chase McLaren (21-6) won the 120 weight class, beating Drake Partridge from AHSTW by major decision.

Starting at 182, the Trojans took home gold in 4 weight classes in a row. Drake Roller (20-8) pinned Louis Long of Bondurant-Farrar in the 3rd period which was his 16th pin of the season.

Next, Junior Zac Stork (21-6) won the 195 weight class to add yet another first place finisher to the podium for Atlantic. Stork triumphed over Trayton Harris from Humboldt. Stork won by major decision and had beaten Harris before earlier in the year. Stork has a record of 21-6.

Keagan Hosfelt (21-5)wrestled in the 220 weight class. Hosfelt defeated Trenton Miller of Alta-Aurelia by technical fall. Hosfelt won gold at this tournament last year in the 220 pound weight class as well.

Sophomore John McConkey (6-1) was the champion of the 285 weight class. McConkey reached the finals of this tournament in 2015 but fell short in the finals. This year, he came out victorious over Justin Jones of Humboldt and won by fall in 5:03.

The Trojans strong finish and push to score bonus points pulled them ahead of Humboldt by almost 50 points. Look below for full team results:
