A mentoring program to help teachers improve their skills was discussed during Wednesday night’s school board meeting.  The Teacher Leadership and Compensation (TLC) program is funded by a two-year grant for $150,000 from the state of Iowa.

The TLC district leader, Ed DenBeste, explained that there is a lead teacher in each building. At AHS the TLC leader is Amber Moore, Jarrod O’Donnell is the TLC assistant.

According to board member Allison Bruckner, TLC is “an excellent program because the teachers are so busy in the classroom working with the kids, and sometimes they need extra support and help from expert teachers.”

The leader at each school is an experienced teacher that has been in the district for a couple of years. Every so often the leaders in each building will go into the classrooms of new teachers and assist them, and help them become better teachers.

Other topics discussed at the board meeting on Oct. 1 included, technology and reports from the EOC and Link Center. The next meeting will be held on Oct. 14.
