On Saturday, the Trojan wrestling team hosted the annual Rollin Dyer tournament here at Atlantic High School. The Trojans took second place with 195 points behind Glenwood, who captured the team title with 222.5 points. The Trojans also crowned four champions, including sophomore Carter Cox (113), junior Keagan Hosfelt (220), and seniors Marshal McDermott (126) and Reid Nichols (152). They also had three runner-ups, including freshman Kole Hansen (106), sophomore Zac Stork (160), and senior Skyler Svoboda (285).

Head coach Tim Duff said the second place finish was “nice for the team.” “I think it was a good field of teams, ahead of seventh ranked Humboldt for the second time was a good accomplishment.” Humboldt finished in third with 162 points. There were eight teams total competing on Saturday.

Nichols was also named the Rollin Dyer Most Outstanding Wrestler, which is an award that can be given to any wrestler wrestling in the tournament. Last year’s recipient was also an Atlantic-CAM wrestler, Jacob Johnson. “It was an awesome experience. It was a huge confidence booster and a great accomplishment,” said Nichols.

Other highlights for Atlantic-CAM was crowning the four champions. Duff said all four boys wrestled strong throughout the tournament.

Continuing to improve as the competition gets tougher is a must for the Atlantic-CAM wrestling program, “We must continue to improve at scoring the first takedown, and also improve on escaping from the bottom position,” said Duff.

The Trojans will host a double dual this evening against St. Albert and Glenwood. It will begin at 5:30 p.m. with senior night.
