There have been some new additions to the AHS library this fall, including a wide selection of fiction and nonfiction books. Librarian Ginger Bechtold said, “After doing a lot of research and what is recommended by other librarians, I chose the books that looked the most interesting.”

When Bechtold looks for new books she looks at “if authors have new books out and what new books in the series are out.” She also checks goodreads.com, “where average people read books and recommend them.” Bechtold said that of the new books, “Let It Snow” is her favorite. “Let it Snow” is 3 short stories about Christmas by prominent authors like John Green, Maureen Johnson, and Lauren Myracle.

Another book that Bechtold recommended was “If You are Reading This” by Trent Reedy. It is about a boy whose father dies in Afghanistan and as he is getting older he starts question things, but of his sixteenth birthday he starts to get letters about growing up and being a man from his father.

The library has added some nonfiction books to the selection as well. “The President Has Been Shot,” “Nazi Hunters,” “Navy Seal Dog,” and “Freedom Summer Murders” have all been new this fall. “The President Has Been Shot” is about the assassination President John F. Kennedy. “Nazi Hunters” is about the secret mission to find Nazi war criminals who escaped after World War II.  “Navy Seal Dog” tells about how the Navy Seals train their dogs for combat. “The Freedom Summer Murders” is about 3 college students from the North go missing in the South during the summer of 1964, while trying to register African Americans to vote. Their trial calls the KKK into question when they turn up murdered.

Bechtold said that she gets new books “as often as I can get someplace to order them.” Sophomore Sarah Fixmer said that she would like to see more books by John green “because his literature is beautiful.”
