Some may see art as a way to pass time, and others may see it as a basic class taken way back in elementary school. For a certain AHS student, art means so much more than the simple things. “It’s like another personality to me,” said senior Mariah Stillian.

Her interest in art all began back in day care. She spent time avoiding other children through drawing books, her favorite thing to draw being girls’s faces and princesses. Years later, Stillian’s main art style is still drawing, “I can get the detail out of it that I want,” she said. Pencil is her go-to tool whenever she draws, and drawing people (especially family) is her specialty.

Stillian is currently in art classes Drawing 2 and AP Art, and sees art teacher Pat Wiederen as a huge role model. According to Stillian, Wieda helps her with all projects and knows exactly what she wants to achieve. “Wieda helps me finish it,” she said.

For this AHS student, art is a tool she uses to express her many different personalities. Each piece Stillian does reflects a different part of her. “I have so many different personalities,” she said, “I can be dark, then I can do something simple like still-lifes.”

With how much influence art has on Stillian, she definitely plans to carry her talents on into her future. UNI is of an interest to her, and she will most likely go for graphic or industrial design.
