Math Team Season Begins Saturday

by Staff

The first math competition of the year will be this Saturday, Nov. 1, at Waverly-Shell-Rock High school. The Great Plains Math League event is open to any AHS students who would like to use their math skills in a competitive setting. Students can compete as individuals or in teams of three. According to Math Team sponsor Kathy Blazek, interested students must sign up by Wednesday, Oct. 29 in room 401.

The team will leave AHS on Friday at 2 p.m., stay at a hotel, and compete at Saturday morning. They will return to Atlantic between 6 and 7 p.m. on Saturday.

Winning teams and individuals “get awards like trophies, or plaques, depending on how they do,” said Blazek.

AHS usually takes three to five students to the competitions and attends four or five events each year. The next competition will be Dec. 6.

Interested students should talk to Blazek for more details about the competition.
