Haylie Handel, Video Editor

Senior Haylie Handel began journalism as a yearbook editor, eventually becoming the sole video editor for Eye of the Needle after finding an interest in making videos. She was originally drawn to journalism by her older sister, Alexis, who was prominent in the program.

Handel danced at Dance Atlantic on and off since she was six, then started at Villa Dance Company as a sophomore. She has been in softball for 11 years, and did swim team and choir as a freshman. After high school, she plans to attend DMACC in Ankeny for an associate’s degree in dental hygiene.

Handel’s favorite memory from Journalism was going to the Journalism Conference in Iowa City as a junior. “It was a fun experience, learning new things that have to do with how to improve our program.” Her advice for students is to not be shy to try new things and get involved.
