Metheny finishes 7th at state tennis tournament

Senior Liz Metheny finished 7th at the state tennis meet in Waterloo (June 2 and 3).
In the first round Metheny defeated Amanda Stefanik of Oskaloosa, 6-3, 6-1.
In the quarterfinals, Metheny ran into the two-time defending state champion (and eventual 2011 champion), Sarah Dalton from Dubuque Wahlert and lost 6-1, 6-0.
On Friday in the consolation bracket Metheny defeated Erin Olson of Esterville-LC 6-4, 7-5.
In the consolation semifinals, Metheny was defeated by Ena Alcan of Fairfield, 7-5, 7-5. The loss put her into the seventh place match against her first round opponent, Stefanik.
The Trojann senior lost 3-6 in the first game, but came back to win 6-4 and 1o-5 in the tiebreak.
