Graduation time, in general, is exciting and busy for anyone, but when you attend Atlantic High School and the CCEOC as a “double student,” it can be even busier and more exciting. Every May, students and parents start asking questions about graduation and all the fun activities and preparations that go with it. The second semester especially can be hard on students between prom, classes, sports, graduation, and steering toward adulthood.
This is especially true for AHS’s double students and CCEOC full-time students. As such, the connection between students and teachers is integral to student success. Engiengkiboss Engkichy Made expressed how Mrs. Hedegaard helped him manage being a double student. Made said, “Mrs. Hedegaard is my best friend.” At the CCEOC, there are 10 sessions, and you have to get at least 4 PA’s in each session. Your grade and age will determine the classes you need to stay on or get back on track. You can also take high school classes as long as you pass them and stay focused on your work. You need 48 credits to graduate, so with scheduling arrangements, it is possible to graduate early.

The CCEOC has a different environment from the traditional high school. They accept students from ages 14 to 21. You can work at your own pace. Senior Markes Mark said, “Mrs. Vogl and Mr. Handel made classes a lot easier.” The size of CCEOC classes allows for more one-on-one time with teachers. Sophomore Ollie Carlton said, “Mrs. Vogl is very supporting.” There are fewer students and less movement between classes so students can focus longer without interruptions. CCEOC students also have the opportunity to participate in high school sports and extracurriculars as long as their grades don’t fall behind – the same rule that applies to other high school students.
If you are a double student who has high school classes, and you finish at the CCEOC before they end, you will still attend your high school classes. Then, at graduation time that school year, you will walk the stage and officially graduate with the high school students. The deadlines for the high school students are the same as those for the CCEOC students when it comes to most things.

Overall, there are a number of ways a student can graduate. The Atlantic community’s options of locations, teachers, and programs allow students with various needs to find solutions that work for them. These plans can always be adjusted to maximize a student’s success. Carlton’s advice for future double students is that “drama gets bad, but will get replaced within a week.”
