Math teacher Ryan Coenen has resigned his position at Atlantic High School. He will be teaching at Woodbine High School next fall.
For four years Coenen has been teaching geometry, algebra and geometry concepts. He has coached football, girls track, and eighth-grade boys basketball.
When asked why he was leaving Coenen said, “It was a chance to get closer to the family farm. It allows me to get closer to family.”
Students who have been coached by Coenen as well as those who have had him as a teacher shared their thoughts.
“I had Coach Coenen in football for three years, and he really got to know me. I think the whole situation is sad, and it’s terrible he’s leaving,” said junior Austin Conrad.
“Mr. Coenen has been one of my track coaches for the past three years. We haven’t always agreed on things, but I will miss him as a coach because he knows how to push his athletes,” said junior Paige Kennon.
Coenen said that his most memorable moments in AHS were whenever he was coaching Trojann Track and Field. Coenen said he will miss Atlantic.

I enjoyed having him as a math teacher, there was always something to laugh about in class. and the funny stories about his kids.
