Nathan Allen, 2006 AHS grad and son of art teacher Pat Wiederien, is out of the hospital and on his road to recovery. Allen was injured in combat in Afghanistan on March 29, when he received multiple bullet wounds.
Allen was first treated in Afghanistan, then transferred to Germany. He was then transferred back to the United States. They expect him to have a complete recovery. According to Wiederien, Allen is eager to get back to Fort Campbell, his home base, then back on duty.
Wiederien says Allen is anxious to get back on with his men, “his family.” She said, “I spent a week with him. Just getting to see him was fantastic.” There were seven men injured during the fighting in which Allen was injured. Six men of 101st Airborne, from Fort Campbell, were killed. According to Wiederien, it was the biggest battle since Vietnam.
Those wanting to send cards or letters to Allen should contact Wiederien.
