The AHS wrestling cheerleaders won the Spirit Award at the annual John J. Wrestling Tournament on Jan. 19th- Jan 20th. The award itself is measured based on the cheerleaders’ spirit and sportsmanship. The award is voted on by other schools. Receiving the Spirit Award is especially impressive for the squad as the team has only three cheerleaders: Gabby Porter, Amaurie McCullough, and Mary McCurdy, who has been injured. Julie Phippen is the head coach of the squad and Kayla Mendenall is the assistant coach. Despite the squad’s small numbers, they always bring a multitude of spirit and support to our Trojan wrestlers.
