FFA Competes at Sub Districts 23
Atlantic FFA has many members advancing to districts.

On Wednesday, February 8, 53 members of the Atlantic FFA chapter competed in the Sub District Career Development Events at Atlantic High School. More than 30 members of the community also came out to judge the night’s contests. Atlantic FFA President Dylan Comes said, “Tonight would not have been possible without the help of our community. They showed up to help judge and better prepare the advancing teams for Districts.”
Earning Gold ratings, placing first, and advancing to Districts were Makenna Schroeder in FFA Creed, DJ Shepperd in Agriculture Sales, Jackson McLaren in Agriculture Broadcasting, and Dan Freund in the Agriculture Welding contest.
Lola Comes competed in the public speaking contest placing second and earning a Gold and advancing to Districts. The Conduct of Meeting Team also placed second and earned a Gold. Team members Lauren Comes, Claire Schroder, Keston Schmitt, Hunter Quist, Lily Johnson, Frank Freund, and Maddy Anderson will also advance to Districts.
Claire Pellett competed in the Extemporaneous Speaking category placing third and earning a Silver and advancing to Districts along with Dylan Comes, who competed in Job Interview earning Silver and placing third. Hudson Goff competed in the Torch Welding contest and placed fifth.
In the Farm Business Management Test Atlantic FFA had two members compete. Charles Klemmensen placed second and Charli Goff placed third out of 28 individuals taking the test.
In the FFA Chapter Quiz, Atlantic FFA had eight members participate. Callee Pellett from Atlantic won the contest. Dylan Comes was fourth and McKenna Sonntag Placed eleventh. Members earning SIlver medals were Lola Comes, Daniel Freund, and Mia Kloewer. Earning Bronze was Hayden Kleen and Colton Becker. Approximately 80 FFA members from Southwest Iowa took the Chapter Quiz this year.
In the FFA Freshman Greenhand Quiz, 12 Atlantic FFA members participated. Earning a Gold rating was Lily Johnson who placed second. Lauren Comes placed seventh and Frank Freund placed twelfth. Claire Schroder, Natalie Smith, Addie Freund, Jocilynn Zarbano, Keston Schmidt, Hunter Quist, and Maddy Anderson earned silver. A Bronze Rating was earned by Miraylie Stuart and Dylen Dreager. Approximately 110 FFA members from Southwest Iowa took the Greenhand Quiz this year.
In the eighth grade Discovery Quiz 16, 16 Altanitc FFA members participated. Addalyn Sonntag earned a Gold rating and placed third overall. Lily Willrich placed fourth. Bailey Grieshaber, Jacquie Freund, Walker Gary, Rylee Harlan, and Kayedance Sturm earned Silver. Amber Lensch, Jake Wailes, Alyson Dreager, Jayden Fiebelkorn, Hallie Robinson, Kole Sorensen, and Grant Petty earned Bronze ratings.
FFA advisor Eric Miller said, “I was proud of all the hard work members put into preparing for their event.”
