Wrestlers Prepare for Districts

The Trojan wrestlers dig in for the postseason.

Postseason wrestling is now underway. The Atlantic-CAM wrestlers finished second at 2A Sectionals. The meet was held in Adel on Saturday, Feb. 8. Freshman Easton O’Brien at 106 pounds, senior Aybren Moore at 113 pounds, and junior Joe Weaver at 126 pounds secured first-place wins. Runner-up places included sophomore Ethan Follman at 120, junior Payton Fewson at 170, junior Devin McKay at 195, and senior Cale Roller at 285. 

O’Brien qualified for Districts at 106 after pinning Justin Parsons of Creston in 32 seconds. Moore finished as a Sectional champion at 113, winning 12-3 over Brenner Gallaagher of Greene County. Weaver also finished as a Sectional champion at 126 pounds with a 10-1 win over Keegan Jensen of Winterset. Follman advanced to Districts at 120 despite losing 5-3 to Ben Aschmits of Carroll Kuemper. Fewson, at 170, pinned Jade Forsyth of Winterset to grab second place. Roller earned a hard-fought win 5-3 over Winterset’s Dugan Tolley at 285. 

The Atlantic-CAM wrestlers finished with a second place team score of 206.5, just 7.5 points behind Winterset. As the team finished runner-up, they get to wrestle again on Tuesday, Feb. 11 in Atlantic. The #10 Trojans take on #26 Red Oak in the first round. If the boys win that match, they face off against the victor of #9 Humboldt and #25 Van Meter. The winning team of the tournament qualifies for State duals.
