Swim Team Competes at State-Qualifying Meet

The boys ended their season in Johnston.

The postseason began on Saturday, Feb. 8 for the Atlantic boys swim team. The Trojans headed to Johnston, where they swam against seven other teams in their district. There were five other district sites, and the top 16 swimmers from all six districts qualified for the State meet. The boys earned seventh place in their district, and no events qualified for State.

Highlights from the meet include two top ten finishes from sophomore Bryan York. His best placing on the day was in the 500-yard freestyle, where he earned seventh. York swam the event in 5:11.19. He came in tenth in the 200-yard freestyle, swimming a 1:56.92. 

Sophomore Drew Engler also cracked the top ten at Districts. Engler competed in the 100-yard breaststroke, swimming the event in 1:07.19. 

In his last high school swim meet, senior Cole Sampson participated in the 100-yard backstroke. Sampson earned 13th place, touching the wall in 1:06.75.

As a team, Atlantic placed seventh. The Trojans earned 98 points on Saturday. The District champion was Valley, who earned 483 points.

Sampson is the lone senior from the 2019-20 boys swim squad.
