After inclement weather struck at the end of November, the Denison-Schleswig basketball game was rescheduled to Thursday, Dec. 19. The Atlantic squad had won four games straight prior to the rescheduled game, sitting at 4-3 on the year. The Monarchs were 3-3. Atlantic knew this was a winnable game, as Denison-Schleswig lost to Kuemper Catholic, who the Trojans beat on Tuesday night.

After tip-off, it was a battle between the two teams. The Monarchs had the upper hand exiting the first frame, 15-12. The Trojans put the pressure on the Monarch offense, and slowed their scoring in the second. At half, Denison-Schleswig was up on Atlantic, 25-21.

Both teams took part in a defensive battle in the third quarter. The Monarchs outscored Atlantic nine to five, stretching their lead going into the final minutes. With their winning streak on the line, the Trojan girls outscored the Monarchs. However, the buzzer blasted before they could make up enough ground, and Atlantic lost the game, 49-43.

Junior Haley Rasmussen led Atlantic with 21 points.

The loss puts the Trojans’ record at 4-4.

The two teams will face off again on Friday, Feb. 7 in Atlantic.
