The Atlantic girls swim team went to Johnston on Saturday for the regional meet. Squads from around the state were present. Atlantic competed against teams that are two to three times bigger in size, as the Trojan girls swim team only has ten members.

Individually, senior Anna Lowary qualified for state in two events. In the 200-yard freestyle, she swam a 1:57.87 to earn 17th place. She was eight seconds behind the fastest time. Lowary also punched her ticket to the state meet in the 500-yard freestyle, where she swam a 5:20.32, finishing in 24th place.

Senior Clare Christensen qualified for state in two events as well. She finished in eighth place in the 50 and 100-yard freestyles. Christensen was just a second shy of the lead qualifier in the 50-yard freestyle.

Two Trojan relays will make an appearance at the state meet as well. The crew of Lowary, Christensen, sophomore Aleah Hermansen, and senior Kate Landhuis took 12th place in the 200-yard freestyle relay. They finished with a time of 1:40.76, less than four seconds behind the first-place group. Lowary, Christensen, Hermansen, and freshman Alexes Reynolds qualified for this weekend’s meet in the 400-yard freestyle relay. They swam the event in 3:42:29, notching 16th place.

Atlantic will take all six events to Marshalltown on Saturday, Nov. 9. This will be the final high school swim meet for Lowary, Landhuis, Christensen, and Erin Barrick.
