The Trojan golfers have hit the links seven times this season, bringing home four team wins. In duals, AHS has won three of its four dual meets against Creston (163-179), Denison-Schleswig (177-183), and Clarinda (151-167). The golfers also took first place in the Lewis Central tournament at Fox Run on April 11 against 11 other teams. Atlantic’s team score of 323 beat out Lewis Central (325) and Glenwood (326) in a hard-fought effort. Junior Cyle Renaud was the medalist with a 74.

Senior Matt Gearheart’s experience on the course has helped him to four medalist performances so far this season. He was the low-scoring golfer at Kuemper Catholic on April 2 (37), Creston on April 5 (37), Clarinda on April 18 (37), and the Monarch Invitational on April 22 (71).

In addition to Gearheart and Renaud, varsity golfers include Braden Smith, Tate Den Beste, Garrett McLaren, and Cooper Jipsen.

Smith’s best performance so far has been his 37 score for runner-up at the Clarinda meet.  Tate Den Beste also had his best round of the season there with a score of 40.

Coach Den Beste noted that Cooper Jipsen saw big improvement playing in Denison on April 22.  “Good to see him gain some confidence today,” Den Beste said, referring to Jipsen’s strong showing on the back nine.

The Trojans play at home tonight and again on Thursday, April 25.
