Senior Spotlight featuring Aaron Rothfusz

Aaron Rothfusz is the brother of Andrew, Lisa and Katie. He likes to socialize with his friends, play piano, “jam out” while driving around and play Mario Kart with his friend Kalob Flory. His favorite place to hang out is Lake Anita, especially at the beach or just “chilling” around a campfire. His family has spent many years camping and visiting there, and Rothfusz said his dad has had an impact on his life. “He shows (me) what it’s like to have a work ethic. He never shows that he is tired and is always there for people,” Rothfusz said.
Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa will be the home of Rothfusz for a few years as he studies elementary education. “I always have enjoyed spending time with kids. I see myself easy to talk to and working well with kids,” Rothfusz said. When he was younger, he wanted to be a pastor because his grandpa was so he had wanted to “follow in his footsteps.”
Getting accepted into All-State as a junior came as a surprise to Rothfusz. He said this was a big event in his life because he was “lacking confidence as a vocalist.” Rothfusz said, “When I got the part, it changed the way I look at my vocalist skills. I really had no confidence in myself but when someone picked me out of several people to perform for them, it really changed my opinions.” He has made All-State three of the four years in high school and his favorite school memory is from sophomore year, auditioning with his older brother as part of a quartet. “It was cool to be able to participate with Andrew,” Rothfusz said.
