Getting to Know the Class of 2018: Dawson Dreager
Senior Spotlight featuring Dawson Dreager
May 7, 2018
For Dawson Dreager, joining the archery team has significantly impacted his years of school. He became part of the team after he first tried it in middle school and decided to stick with it. During his freshman year, the archery team qualified for Nationals, where they competed with over two hundred teams from across the country. Dreager was one of the 24 that were taken to Louisville, Ky. to compete. Lettering for the first time during his second year of archery was one of Dreager’s most notable high school memories and he is very glad he joined the team.
After his first two years of high school and spending some time shooting his bow at home, Dreager became one of the top 12 shooters on the team, allowing his score to be counted at competitions. His best score of his junior year was a 272, which is 28 points away from a perfect score. “It’s really one of those sports that practice makes perfect,” Dreager said. He shoots with his two younger brothers, Derek and Dustin, and his younger sister Dayna is also beginning the sport. Even though they may be better than him, Dreager said he enjoys being able to compete with his siblings.
Throughout his life, Dreager’s mom has pushed him unfailingly and has always been there to encourage him. Dreager currently works with his cousin researching crop chemicals and plans to major in agronomy in college. At home, Dreager spends his free time shooting his bow and relaxing on his living room couch. He also enjoys “being able to get together with friends and just having fun, and shooting by your best friend.”
