On Friday, Jan. 22. the Atlantic boys basketball team hosted the Clarinda Cardinals on senior night. The six Seniors that were recognized were Austin Alexander, Scott Leonard, Jaxson Eden, Ben Renaud, Cole Jipsen, and Blake Pelzer.

The Trojans started off too hot for the Cardinals defense and jumped out to a 26-8 lead at the end of the first. The defense for Atlantic held the Cardinals to 0 points in the second quarter while putting up 19 on the offensive side. Atlantic led going into halftime by a score of 45-8.

Clarinda came out in the second half adding points to the board but not enough. The Trojans still outscored the Cardinals in the third and fourth quarter which only added to the more than manageable lead.

In the fourth quarter, Senior Cole Jipsen, who had been a manager for the Trojans all of his 4 years got his chance to step into the game. To a standing crowd, the senior entered the game, and he got his chance to record his first two points of his career. After missing his first shot, senior Scott Leonard came down with the rebound and passed it back to Jipsen who layed it up for his first two points in his career.

Leonard led the team with 17 points and a total of 11 rebounds, Alexander finished with 15 points and sunk three 3 pointers. Junior Chase Mullenix was not far behind and finished with 13 points going five for eight from the field.

The Boys next game will be Friday, Jan. 26. at Red Oak. Tip-off will be at 7:30 p.m.
