Girls’ Basketball Starts Season 1-0

Atlantic girls’ basketball team won their first game of the 2017-18 season. They look to win another against the Denison Monarchs.

On Monday, Nov. 20, the Atlantic girls’ varsity basketball team traveled to Carroll to kick off their 2017-2018 season against the Carroll High Tigers. The Tigers finished with a 4-17 record last season while the Trojans finished 2-20.

Atlantic started off fast and strong Monday night, gaining the lead 12-11 by the end of the first quarter. In the second, Carroll fell behind while the Trojans surged forward adding 20 points to their lead. Atlantic finished the first half with the lead 32-22 and carried the momentum on into the second half.

The Trojans kept the lead throughout the second half and walked away with a win in their first game of the season 71-50. Junior Alyssa Ginther was on fire and finished with 22 points, shooting 6 for 9 from the field with four 3-pointers. Sophomore Mckenzie Waters was not far behind finishing with 16 points. She was 7 for 13 from the field and 2 for 3 at the free-throw line.

Atlantic’s next game will be their first home game of the season against the Denison Monarchs on Tuesday, Nov. 21.
