The last time the Atlantic Trojans football team had won a homecoming game was 2012. This year the Trojans were hungry to put there names in the books as winners in 2017.

Both teams were evenly matched and played like it throughout. The first quarter was held scoreless after Senior Brady Dickerson blasted through the Creston line and blocked a field goal. There was no score until Junior Chase Mullenix kicked it off with a 2 yard run. Atlantic was up 6-0 after a failed point after attempt.

The Panthers came out strong in the second half with a first drive touchdown. Once again Dickerson came through the line to block the field goal and made the score stay tied 6-6. Atlantic responded with another Mullenix touchdown to the right side for 2 yards. Senior Trey Cappel put the PAT through the uprights to make the score 13-6. It did not take long for Creston to respond and the score was tied 13-13 with little time left in the 4th. Both teams kept each other scoreless till the end of regulation.

In overtime the Trojans got the ball first. Mullenix ran the ball twice to get the Trojans down the half yard line. Then Senior Quarterback Jaxson Eden punched it in through two Creston defenders. A fumbled snap caused Atlantic to miss the point after. On the first play of Creston’s drive the snap was put on the ground. Junior Connor Pellett dove in for the ball and secured the Trojans first homecoming since 2012 and the first win over the Panthers since 2008.

Eden finished 14-24 and threw for 178 yards and help contribute to the 129 yards on the ground. Mullenix caught seven passes for 102 yards and ran for 64 yards on 14 attempts. Atlantic finished with 307 total yards which was out gained by Creston with 336 yards.

The Trojans will travel to Glenwood this week to take on the 4-1 rams on there homecoming. Game beginning at 7:30 p.m.
