Trojan Tennis Places Second at H-10 Tournament

On Monday, May 8, the Hawkeye Ten conference tennis meet was hosted in Atlantic.
Atlantic started off the tournament with Grant Podhajsky and Cooper McDermott playing number one doubles, Luke Hohenberger played number one singles, Caleb Williams and Kalob Flory at number two doubles, and Nile Petersen played number two singles.
The number one duo of Podhajsky and McDermott got a bye for the first round. The rest of the Trojan team was successful and remained in the winner’s bracket for the second round.
In the second round, Podhajsky and McDermott defeated Glenwood, one of their toughest competitions of the year, advancing onto the semi-finals. Hohenberger was defeated, and got put into the consolation bracket for the rest of the tournament. The number two doubles duo along with the number two singles player were victorious, and moved onto the semi-finals.
In the third consolation round Hohenberger was defeated by the number one Creston player.
In the semi-finals, Podhajsky and McDermott defeated the number one Kuemper team, advancing to the finals. Petersen, was defeated, and put into the consolation bracket. Williams and Flory won their match, yet again, sending them to the finals as well.
In the last round Hohenberger lost his match finishing out the day placing fifth. Petersen lost his match as well, placing third in the H-10.
In the championship round, Atlantic’s number one duo defeated the number one Creston team, naming Podhajsky and McDermott number one doubles Hawkeye Ten champions. Williams and Flory defeated the number two doubles team from Kuemper, making them Hawkeye Ten champions as well.
On Thursday, May 11, the team will be attending the district tournament, which will determine what players are going to compete at State.
