ANNA IEKEL
How did you feel when your name was called on stage for receiving the scholarship?
I was kind of surprised. Everyone knew Nadia was going to get one of the scholarships because she’s been so involved in band and is going to become a band director. But the other scholarship was kind of up in the air. There were a couple people that I thought might get it. So yeah, I was a little surprised right at first, and then then I just felt really honored.
Do you plan on using the money to pursue a musical career?
No, although someday far in my future, I might open a piano studio or something. But I will still be involved in music in college and I’ll be minoring in music.
Where do you plan on going to college at?
I plan to go to Northwestern College in Orange City, Iowa.
What do you plan on majoring in in college?
I plan on majoring in Spanish, minoring in music, and getting an ESL endorsement.
Why did you choose this major?
I chose this major because I’ve always enjoyed learning Spanish, and I’ve had some experiences interacting with some of the Spanish speakers in town who were trying to learn English. And especially after travelling to Korea and China, it just solidified for me that I wanted to go into Spanish. I got a bit of a taste for what its like coming into a country where you don’t speak the language and that was just another piece that inspired me.
