Saturday January 7th, Atlantic High School held the Rollin Dyer wrestling tournament.

Zac Stork, John McConkey, Drake Roller, Carter Cox, Chase McLaren, and Kole Hansen all placed first in their weight classes, while Mitchell Williamson placed second.

Atlantic had two notable wrestlers, Roller and Hansen. Roller had three pins and received the Rollin Dyer Outstanding Wrestler award.

Roller says that he is “very honored” to win the award, and that he is excited to “have fun the rest of the season with his team.”

Hansen had two pins and three wins total. During Hansen’s first match a pin gave him his 100th win in his high school wrestling career. Hansen said that it “feels great” but now he needs to “focus on the rest of the season.”

Coach Tucker Weber has a good outlook on the season so far, and on what still is coming up. “I think we did good, it’s the hardest part of the season. We’ve made a big jump from the beginning of the season,” said Weber.

Weber talked about Hansen, saying, “anytime you reach that milestone, you should be proud of that, starting varsity all four years, that’s a milestone in itself.”

He also believes that the team has a good chance to finish the season strong. “We have a chance to do some special things, we are ranked 3rd right now, and they’re respecting our team. We are hoping to send around six to nine kids to state.”

The team’s next dual is Tuesday, January 10th at Missouri Valley.
