Last Friday, Dec. 16, the Trojan basketball team took on the Shenandoah Mustangs at home.

The team took a lead right from the beginning, and held it throughout the entire game.

By the end of the first quarter the Trojans were ahead 18-6.

At halftime Atlantic was leading Shenandoah 35-12. Senior Garrett Franken had the most points at 13 in just two quarters.

In the last seconds of the third Franken hit a three point buzzer beater to lead the Mustangs 59-39.

By the fourth quarter the varsity team was taken out of the game, and was replaced by the JV team to finish out the night for a win.

The Trojans defeated the Mustangs 72-38, and improved their record to 6-0.

Head coach Alan Jenkins said, “Our guys played fast in transition against Shenandoah. It allowed us to wear them down by the time we reached midway through the third quarter. We are competing at a very high level. We have aspirations of being one of the best teams in not only the Hawkeye 10, but class 3A. I look forward to continuing to watch us grow as a team over the course of the next two months.”

Senior Garrett Franken said, “The season is going really well so far. We have beaten some really good teams, and we are playing really good right now. We want to keep playing at the level we are and continue to win games.”

The boys’ next game is tomorrow, Tuesday Dec. 20, against Kuemper in the AHS gym.

Jenkins said, “Kuemper will be our toughest challenge to date. They have size, speed, and athleticism. We need to be at our best in order to give ourselves a chance to win. It will be important that we are playing at home.”

The varsity team tip-off is at 7:30.
