On Saturday, Nov. 19, AHS Fuel’s second annual winter sports kick-off will be held.

Starting today up until the event is over, anybody can buy a Coaches vs. Cancer logo to be hung up in the entryway of the school.

The winter sports kick-off will begin at 6 p.m.

The boy’s basketball team will have their open practice to start off the night, followed by the girl’s basketball team, and then a 3 point contest between both teams.

All winter sports athletes, and people participating in winter activites will be recognized in front of the community.

Kim Durst from the American Cancer Society will do a couple activities, one to raise more money for the event, and the other to spread more awareness about how many people cancer effects in our community.

The final event of the night will be a staff basketball game. Teachers and faculty from the school district will play in a 12 minute game.

Last year, AHS Fuel set up this event, and was able to raise $950. Half was raised at the door through free-will donations, and the event’s sponsor, Duke Aerial, matched that price.

This year Duke Aerial is again this event’s sponsor, and will match the amount earned.

AHS Fuel’s goal for this year is to raise $2,000 through free-will donations at the event, buying Coaches vs. Cancer logos, and sponsors.

Coaches vs. Cancer is an event hosted by the American Cancer Society, they’re that ones that also put together Relay For Life. All of the proceeds earned go to cancer research.

AHS Fuel advisor Dan Vargason said, “This event is good because it’s a good way to get all of our athletics involved. Communities typically come together the most when it comes to sports, so we thought it would be a good way for everybody come together for a great cause.”

Vargason also said, “Coaches vs. Cancer is a very good, and trustworthy organization. When you give them your money, you know exactly where and what your money is going to. That’s why this organization was chosen.”

Everyone is encouraged to buy a Coaches vs. Cancer logo for $1, and to attend the winter sports kick-off next Saturday evening.
