Last Friday, Oct. 21, the Trojan football team played their last game of the 2016 season at Harlan. The team lost the game 14-49, ending their season with a 1-8 record.

In the first quarter, the Trojans had the first big play of the game scoring a touchdown, and leading the Cyclones 7-0.

Soon after, the Cyclones came back, scoring a touchdown, and tieing the game 7-7.

Throughout the rest of the game the Trojans were only able to score one more time compared to Harlan’s 6.

Head coach Mike McDermott said, “We played well in the first half, we scored to cut the lead in half, but Harlan really took it to us in the second half. Although our record didn’t show it, I thought our team improved throughout the year.”

The team is looking to continue to put in work during the off-season. McDermott wants the team to stay involved, and compete in sports the rest of the school year. There will be summer workouts set up by the coaches, as well as speed and agility.

McDermott said, “I enjoyed working with our kids, and appreciated all the support. I am just so glad so many (players) decided to come out. We are looking for a commitment from our underclassmen for next year. A big focus will be us moving from being “interested” in football to being “committed” to football. This off-season we will need to be more committed.”

“I thought our compete level was better, and our technique improved. However, we need to accelerate that process this offseason for us to be a playoff contender,” said McDermott.
