Last Friday, Sept. 2, the Trojan football team lost a close game 3-7 against the Shenandoah Mustangs.

Head coach Mike McDermott said, “I liked our overall attitude and effort, we need to find some big plays, long runs or passes on offense, and get some more turnovers on defense.”

The Trojans started off the game right, battling until the end of the first quarter keeping the score at 0-0.

Early in the second quarter the Trojans were able to get close enough to kick a field goal on 4th down. Senior Eric Weiser kicked from the 25 yard line, leading the Mustangs 3-0.

Atlantic held the lead throughout the 2nd quarter and into the 3rd, until running back Kyle Owens scored a 32 yard touchdown for the Mustangs.

In the 4th, the Trojans were able to bring out their best defense, and hold the Mustangs only allowing them to score once. Ending the game 3-7. The Trojans record is now 1-1.

Sophomore Chase Mullenix was named KS95 player of the game.

Mullenix said, “I think we are playing well, but aren’t quite where we should or could be. We played decent, we could’ve played better, it was just one of those games that they did the little things right and we didn’t.”

The Trojans next game is the homecoming game this Friday, Sept. 9, against the Denison Monarchs.

McDermott said, “We will continue to run the football and use the run to set up our play action passing game. Defensively, Denison will put a lot of pressure on our secondary or defensive backs.”

Kickoff is at 7, and the theme is black and gold.
