Atlantic Boys’ Basketball Move Onto Districts Round 2

Last night Monday, Feb 22, the Atlantic boys basketball team traveled to Glenwood to take on the the Winterset Huskies in the first round of district play.  

The Trojans hopped out to a 6-5 lead with 5:40 left in the first quarter. Junior Garrett Franken and sophomore Austin Alexander had back to back threes with a minute left, which put Atlantic up 21-7. The Trojans finished the quarter 23-7.

Sophomore Scott Leonard continued to make his presence known in the second quarter. As the Trojans tacked on 11 points, and led at the end of second 34-16.

2:02 into the third quarter, the Trojans were leading 39-16. At the end of the quarter the Trojans were able to put up 11 points and finished the quarter leading 46-23

In the 4th the Trojans continued to push ahead and led 57-35 with 2:05 left in the game. Atlantic kept being patient and passing the ball around and came away with the win 59-39.

Leonard led the team with 21 points, while senior Ryan Hawkins finished with 14, and Franken with 9.

Atlantic’s next game is at Abraham Lincoln High School against the Glenwood Rams. Tip off is at 7.
