No Pep Bus to Girls’ District Game 2

The girls’ basketball team advanced in district play last Saturday, for the first time since 2008. AHSFuel offered a pep bus to provide transportation to those who wanted to attend the Feb. 17 game in Shenandoah at a cost of $5. However, the bus was cancelled due to low sign-up. Forty students were needed to justify the cost. AHSFuel adviser Dan Vargason said, “I am disappointed that only two people signed up and I was expecting a lot better turn out!”

Despite no pep bus, the Atlantic crowd Wednesday night was strong. JV coach Emma Walker said, “I am very proud of all the kids who came out and supported us.  The student section was so powerful, I thought it may have spooked the girls.  I am very proud of the support AHS has brought us.”

The AHS girls basketball celebrates victory after the Feb. 13 against Clarinda. This was the first district game won by AHS girls since 2008.

In the past pep busses have been organized for football and boys’ basketball games. There have been no pep busses this year.
