More than 100 items and $500 were raised for soldiers by the AHS Student Council during their “Support the Troops” project. At the state conference, usually held in the fall,  the State Student Council decides a theme for the year, this year was “Support the Troops”. Each school’s student council chose how much they would get involved in the project. The AHS Student Council’s goal was to raise about $100 and a good amount of items. In total they raised over $520 and filled four large boxes to be sent overseas.

In the AHS Student Council there was unanimous support for the project. Dustin Rudolph said, “We love the troops and love what they do for us.” Rudolph with the help of other members of student council, Clayton Saeugling and David Thompsen went to many school events to ask for donations from the community. Donations could include money or any of the items Student Council asked for in the announcements. The boys attended the Rollin-Dyer wrestling tournament and home basketball games.

One teacher took initiative and decided to turn the fundraiser into a competition between his classes. Spanish teacher Daniel Vargason asked his Spanish classes to bring in items and the class that brought the most would receive a pizza party. The winner was last semester’s period three Spanish 4 class that brought in a total of 78 items. But overall Vargason brought in 195 items and was a huge help.

The Student Council was very proud of how AHS and the community “united as one” to donate so much to this project. To many people in our community and school this is something close to their hearts and are thankful for the support.
