Crazy Town at AHS
November 17, 2015
The 2015 Fall play production “Crazy Town” was performed last weekend, Nov. 6-8. The comedy about a morning news team on station WOMG that reports a series of unusual news stories, including a competition in sports spectating, a gadget that censors all objectionable material from stage productions, and a third-grade student-body president debate.
Drama, speech and debate teacher Alex Bales said that he was “extremely proud of this production” and praised “a truly successful production.” He noted that the success of the show involves more than what is presented on stage. He said the quality of the cast and the stage crew were truly outstanding.
Out of three performances, Saturday had the lowest attendance, while Friday and Sunday had a great turn out. Bales said, “Although Saturday had the lowest attendance of all three nights the cast had an almost perfect performance, and was one the best performances I have seen.”
Sophomore Josh McLean played five different characters in the production. He said the first night of the performance had a couple “blunders.” McLean said the first two nights went pretty good and on Sunday there were some senior pranks that got a little “annoying,” as McLean called it.
McLean said that of his five different roles, his most important role was Eddie. Eddie is a third grader running for class president against a girl. McLean said one of his favorite parts of the play was working with the directors. He also said that they had to cut out a scene in the play to keep it more school appropriate. McLean wasn’t nervous to go out on stage and perform because he’s done a lot of things like this.
Freshman Sarah Schorle played the roles of Gertrude Hubs and Detective Kimball. Schorle said Sunday was definitely the best night of the performance. Out of the many freshmen on stage, she was not one of them who was nervous to go out on stage.
Although Schorle wasn’t nervous, she did notice some other freshmen that were nervous to perform. She felt that one of the best things that went well this play was the cast enthusiasm. She said the group bonding is what really made the play special. Something Schorle thought could have been better was that they could have remembered their lines a little better.
