Junior Phoenix Shadden who participates in cross country, track, and baseball during the summer has quite an offseason in between cross country and track that helps keep him in good shape. Shadden identifies cross country as his favorite sport “because that is what I’m best at.” Shadden has been the number two runner on varsity the entire year and said he plans to be the Trojans’ number one runner next fall.

Shadden knows that to continue to have as much success as he does, he needs to work. “I need to make sure I stay in shape and actually run on my own.” Shadden doesn’t like having an offseason because it makes him feel as if he isn’t doing anything. He hates having that feeling. During the offseason he says he knows he has to rely on himself to run and stay in shape to be having the success he has his mind set on.

Coach Paul Iekel said, “I think he’s got a great chance to qualify for state, it should be one of his goals.  Place-wise he could be a top ten finisher.  How much running he does in the off season will determine what he can do next season.”
