Boys Tennis Advances Towards State

Monday, May 18, the Trojans played the Kuemper Knights for their first sub-state matchup. The Trojans defeated the Knights 5-4, and will now advance to their second sub-state meet.

In singles, #1 Nick Podhajsky won in sets 6-2, 6-1, #2 freshman Grant Podhajsky lost 4-6, 4-6, #3 senior Ben Parker won 6-0, 6-4, #4 senior Kyle Krueger lost 4-6, 5-7, #5 freshman Cooper McDermott won 6-2, 6-1, and #6 senior Cain Stuart lost 2-6, 1-6.

In doubles, #1 (Nick) Podhajsky and (Grant) Podhajsky won their first set 6-3, lost their second set 2-6, and won their last set in a tie-break 10-4. #3 McDermott and Hohenberger lost their first set 1-6, won their second set 6-4, and lost in tie-break 3-10.

The #2 doubles team of Parker and Krueger were the last ones playing with an exciting finish. With both the Trojans and the Knights having a score of 4 it came down to the tie-break in the second set determining which team would advance to the next round of districts. Parker and Krueger won their first set 6-4. In the second set the score was tied at 6-6, when the team ended up winning that set 7-6 in a 2 point tie-break. This put the Trojans over the Knights 5-4.

On Saturday, May 24, the boys will play the final round of districts before the team state tournament.
