In July, Ted Geisel, who uses the pen name Dr. Seuss, is releasing a new book. According to the Huffington Post,“What Pet Should I Get?” is a manuscript that was found in his belongings, which is currently finishing up the publishing process.

Geisel’s wife, Audrey Geisel, first found his writings in 1991 after his death. In 2013, Geisel gave them to her husband’s former publisher. “What Pet Should I Get?” is based off of the same kids featured in “One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish,” which was released in 1960.  Now the siblings are looking for a new pet based on looks and how well the name rhymes.

Geisel told the Huffington Post, “While undeniably special, it is not surprising to me that we found this because Ted always worked on multiple projects and started new things all the time — he was constantly writing and drawing and coming up with ideas for new stories. It is especially heartwarming for me as this year also marks twenty-five years since the publication of the last book of Ted’s career, ‘Oh, the Places You’ll Go!’”

Many AHS students have fond memories of reading Dr. Seuss books when they were little. Sophomore Rob Hitch said his favorite Dr. Seuss book was “Hop on my Pop” because  “as a kid I used to hop on my pop, and it spoke to me.”  “Green Eggs and Ham” was freshman Ethan Halterman favorite of Seuss’s collection.  He said it was the first book he remembered.
