Saturday, Feb. 14 was the district wrestling tournament held at AHS. Out of 11 teams that competed, the Trojans finished in second as a team and qualified four wrestlers to the state tournament this week. The Trojans finished behind Creston, who took the district team title with about 160 points. Freshman Kole Hansen, sophomore Carter Cox, and seniors Reid Nichols and Austin Williamson will all be wrestling at Wells Fargo Arena.

Hansen (106) and Nichols (152) were both district champions while Cox and Williamson were runner-ups. Cox qualified for state last year a freshman. He was a district champion, but he didn’t place at the state tournament.

According to head coach Tim Duff, “Our goals and focus turns to those four wrestlers and bringing home medals from the tournament.”

Nichols said, “I was really nervous before my finals match, but I just went out there with the right mindset. I kept telling myself that I deserved this more than anyone else. I’ve worked harder than anyone else in the state and it’s time people know about it.”

The wrestling program also celebrated Duff as he has been the head coach here at AHS for a decade now.

The four boys will begin at Wells Fargo Arena with the first session on Thursday beginning at 1 pm.
