Trojans Sweep Through Sectionals

The Trojan wrestling team advanced 12 of 14 boys to the district tournament, took the team title with 265.5 points, and advanced as a team to the regional duals for the fourth consecutive year. Great job Trojans!

The Trojan wrestling team dominated the class 2A section 3 sectionals wrestling tournament that was held in Harlan on Saturday. The Trojans advanced 12 of 14 boys to the district tournament, took the team title with 265.5 points, and advanced as a team to the regional duals for the fourth consecutive year.

Head coach Tim Duff said, “Twelve wrestlers advancing is the most wrestlers we have ever qualified for the district tournament. The next exciting thing was that we qualified for the regional dual team meet on Tuesday night. We wrestle at Creston at 6 p.m. for a chance to advance to state duals.”

Freshman Kole Hansen (106), sophomores Carter Cox (113) and Zac Stork (160,) junior Keagan Hosfelt (195,) and seniors Austin Williamson (138,) Reid Nichols (152,) and Skyer Svoboda (285) were all crowned champions. Sophomores Colby Sorensen (120) and Drake Roller (170,) junior Tanner Mauk (132,) and seniors Marshal McDermott (126) and Travis Peterson (182) were runner ups. Freshman John McConkey (220) placed third and senior Brandon Schmidtke (145) finished in fifth place.

Duff said, “We have to fight to not give up falls (pins.) Creston is a top five team. We have to be our very best to have a chance to win.”

The Trojans will travel to Creston on Tuesday evening for regional duals. They will wrestle Winterset in the first round set to begin at 5:30 pm. The Trojans host the district tournament next Saturday, which will begin at noon. Come out and support your AHS wrestlers on their journey to the Wells Fargo Arena!
