On Jan. 23 and 24, the Trojan wrestling team will be heading to Corning to wrestle in the 60th annual John J. Harris tournament. There will be approximately 22 teams competing. The Trojans finished third as team and brought home three champions in last year’s tournament. The tournament is scheduled to begin on Friday afternoon, continue starting at 10 a.m. on Saturday, and run through Saturday afternoon.
Sophomore Drake Roller said the team should place in the top three but the goal is to “win the tournament.” Roller also said, “I want to be on the podium.”
Head coach Tim Duff said this is a “great tournament at a good time of the season, it gives a good preview of what is to come in the next few weeks.” The Trojans will be competing with many teams that they will wrestle against at the Hawkeye Ten Conference tournament, sectionals, and the district tournament. The team will be facing multiple ranked teams from different classes (1A, 2A, 3A.)
The tournament kicks off at 4 pm this evening, come support the AHS wrestlers.
