At the start of the 2014-2015 girls basketball season, the Trojans are on an early winning streak, going 2-0 in their first two games of the season under new head coach Kelly Juhl. The season opened on the 24th when the girls traveled to Abraham Lincoln and won 49-34, with 30 points coming from returning varsity starter Erin Olsen.
On the next day, the 25th, the Trojans traveled to Denison and won a close game in the closing seconds of the 4th quarter. The Trojans were down by 4 with only 21 seconds remaining. They put on a full court press and caused Denison to turn the ball over. Junior Tiffany Williams drove to the hoop, got fouled, and was put on the line where she made 1 of her free throws.
The Trojans pressed once more and caused Denison to turn the ball over again. This time, junior Erin Olsen drove to the hoop getting fouled. She made both of her free throws, putting the Trojans up by 1 point with 5 seconds left. The Trojans finished the game on top when Denison couldn’t score. Juhl said, “It was good for us to be in a close game and come out on top, it was good for our confidence.”
To keep winning throughout the season, Juhl said, “We have to keep working in practice like we have through the first 3 weeks, and keep getting better every single day.”
The girls’ next game is on Monday the 30th,against Carroll. The game is in Atlantic, so come cheer on our undefeated Trojans!
