Under the authority of first year head coach Eric Waldstein, the Trojans had more success this season than in previous years. The Trojans ended the 2014 football season 3-6, compared to last year’s 1-8 record, and sixth in the district.

Waldstein said, “They (the boys) really came together as a team. They really bonded well and were able to ‘check their egos at the door’ and did what they had to do to make the team better.  They never quit on the coaches or their teammates.” He also comments that they “were a family.”

Senior Tristen Benn said, “I think the whole team improved throughout the season just playing together. Our senior class has been playing together for a long time and that helped.” Senior Tyler Thomas said, “I think we improved on every aspect.”

Waldstein said, “This is a great group of seniors. There are some talented guys in this group and we will have some holes to fill. They have played hard and really brought some leadership to the team and really embraced the changes we have made as a coaching staff.  They will always be the first group to get this program back on track.” Benn and Thomas’s advice to the underclassmen is to not take any of it for granted and “don’t take any days off because it goes by faster than you think it will.”

According to Waldstein, he is really proud of the team. “They exceeded a lot of people’s expectations and they never quit.”

What’s in mind for next season? According to Waldstein, the boys will continue working in the weight room. “Football is a year-round sport if you want to be good. We have a lot of holes to fill and a lot of questions about who is going to fill those holes, but we have a couple different ideas.” He also commented that they will be a young but talented team next season.

“I am looking for forward to seeing how this team grows over the next nine months,” he said.
