On August 28, the Scary Guy visited Atlantic High School, despite the many criticisms the school has received for bringing him into the community. The Scary Guy spoke on the troubles of bullying and harassment in schools and communities.
Scary brought many things up in his speech: how he has been to many places, the 7 night, 7 day challenge, and his past experiences with bullying. Scary encourages kids to reach out to him and told the student body, “I have received over 4000 letters from students and parents through a year.”
Scary spoke on many things such as how humans interact to bullying and how you can improve these reactions. His visit involved an opening session with the whole school, then the grades were separated into two groups: freshmen and sophomores, and juniors and senior. The freshmen and sophomores left after the opening session and went into their seminar groups to participate in activities and discussion while the juniors and seniors stayed in the auditorium as Scary lectured on how to control your mind, which will help with bullying issues.
There was a lot of controversy over bringing Scary into the schools with parents. Many felt they were kept in the dark and scared by his viral videos. However, many students enjoyed Scary’s visit and felt all the controversy was over dramatized. Sophomore Damon Miller expresses, “I really liked his message, but he could have presented it more interestingly.” Freshman Blake Pelzer thought he was good and wasn’t as violent as he heard he was going to be.
