On Mon., March 24, Girls’ Basketball Coach Casey Pelzer announced his resignation to the girls basketball team in a morning meeting. Later on that night the school board approved his resignation.
Pelzer said “I’ve been thinking about it for awhile, after this season I especially took a lot of thoughts and prayer into it. I didn’t feel I could give the energy and time the program needs anymore.”
Alexander said Pelzer officially resigned at the meeting on March 14. Where he indicated his loss of interest in the position and submitted a letter of resignation the following day. He also commented that someone has been interested since the resignation has been posted. Pelzer plans to continue living and teaching in the community, and possibly helping out at the middle school. Pelzer enjoyed his coaching experience however, “I liked working with the gals and Coach Hinzmann, this decision to resign definitely took a lot of thinking and prayer.”
Alexander commented regarding the rumors of parental influence on this resignation, “I understand there was parent concern, but that comes with any competitive activity. It was his decision completely.” Pelzer’s strengths as a coach were that he has good basketball knowledge and knows the game. “He’s very compassionate, he knows his players. He said he wants the program to improve and that needs a new invigorated look that he could not give.”
