Girls take home fourth at Hawkeye 10 Conference Track Meet; Boys place sixth

The Atlantic Trojann girls’ track team finished in fourth place with 71 points at the 2012 Hawkeye 10 Conference Track Meet in Red Oak.

Senior Ali Krogman took home the 1500 meter championship.  Krogman also placed first in the 3000 meter run.  Ali finishes her four-year career at AHS with eight Hawkeye 10 Championships.

Senior Melanie Nielsen finished second in the 200 meter dash, .29 seconds behind the first place finisher. Nielsen also finished third in the 100 meter dash and third in the 400 meter dash.

Senior Sam Peterson placed third in the 800 meter run.

The Trojanns also took home a second place finish in the shuttle hurdle relay. The team consisted of seniors Amanda Gude and Sam McConnell and sophomores Lauren Krogman and Kelsey Hamilton.

The 800 meter sprint relay team of seniors Alex Hartwig and Taylor Barry, sophomore Kristin Johnk, and freshman Erin Shannon placed third.

The 1600 meter distance medley team (S. Peterson, E. Shannon, A. Gude, A. Hartwig) also took home a third place finish on Tuesday evening.

The 4×400 meter relay team placed fifth. Seniors Taylor Barry, Sam Peterson, and Alex Hartwig, and freshman Allie Siggins highlighted the event.

BOYS

The boys placed sixth at Monday’s conference meet with 37 points.

Senior Tyler Hovey continued his impressive throwing season with a first place finish in the discus and second in the shot put.

Senior Blake Esbeck placed second in the 800 meter run.

Junior Jake Auerbach finished fifth in the 400 meter hurdles.

The 4×200 meter relay team finished fourth (Seniors Ethan Westering, Zach Smith, and Ryan McDermott, and sophomore Tye Nielsen).

Sophomores Josiah Williams, Preston Hoye, and Logan Steffens, and junior Jake Auerback teamed up to place fifth in the 4×800 meter relay.

The Trojans also took home sixth place finishes in the 4×100 (Smith, Nielsen, McDermott, and Westering) and  the 4×400 (Freshman Robbie Bodine and Brody Peterson, McDermott, and Auerbach).

Westering also placed sixth in the long jump, jumping 18 feet-3.25 inches.
