The Atlantic and Walnut School Boards held a meeting in Walnut Monday evening, May 16, at which the sharing between the two schools was approved.
Walnut high school students who wish to play football will now join the Trojans for the 2011-2012 season. According to discussion at the meeting, the estimated four to six players will be held to the same standards as Atlantic players and will be treated as equals. Atlantic welcomes the Walnut players with open arms.
The sharing of classes between schools was also approved. Walnut students will travel to AHS for the last three periods of the school day. Schedules have been assigned for the approximated 47 students. The question still remains whether Walnut students will be present at AHS for Seminar (before sixth period) or if they will constructively use that time in Walnut.
Lastly, the 2011-2012 school calendar was approved, as well as shared transportation. A representative from Walnut mentioned great satisfaction with the ACSD bus barn’s work and joint transportation will continue next year.
