Cherries in the rearview: losing your license

By Brett Keegan and Jake Dvorak

Losing the right to drive is most common among teenagers. Students lose their license for many reasons, such as speeding tickets, accidents, careless driving, or getting in trouble with a vehicle.

Cody Kirchhoff, a senior at AHS, said he lost his license after having multiple tickets within one year. He lost his license for one month. To get his license back, he had to take tests and pay $21.00.

Steve Blazek has been a driver’s education teacher for many years at AHS. “The ages I have seen lose their license the most is the young group, around 16-17 years of age,” he said.  In the drivers ed classes, he discusses losing the privilege of driving. He said, “When driving, try to be a defensive driver and watch out for the other drivers’ mistakes.”

As a drivers ed teacher, Blazek has watched some of the worst drivers drive in the student driver car. He said, “Sometimes you can tell who will be a good driver and who will lose their license soon.”

People avoid losing their licenses by maintaining the driving rules on and around the roadways. Many people at AHS have experienced the punishment of losing their driver’s license.
