AHS Blood Drive

By Paul Honke

The National Honor Society is asking students to donate blood.

Atlantic High School is having their first of two annual blood drives on Wednesday, Oct. 12 from 7:30-1:15. The National Honors Society members assist the Red Cross by setting up the equipment, donating food, and helping donors in the process.

“We hope to get over 110 pints of blood for the blood drive,” says NHS sponsor Sheila Hayden.

In order to sign up for the blood drive, students must see Hayden in math room 402. Students should sign up before Oct. 12, 2011. Students will select a certain time during which to donate blood. Students must be 16 or older to give blood. If you are currently 16, you must have a signed parental permission form (available in room 402).

The blood donation process usually takes one-hour and 15 minutes. However the time you spend actually giving blood is around 10 to 15 minutes. During the rest of the time, students will relax leisurely. The amount of blood students will be donating is around one pint.

Sophomore Kody Hansen will be donating for the first time. When asked about whether or not he is nervous Kody replied “Yeah I guess.”

    To all NHS members,
Please know how proud I am of your efforts in today’s blood drive. It is comforting and fulfilling to know we have such strong student leaders who constantly look for ways to help others. I realize you may be feeling a little discouraged after the numbers came in today, however, much of that was out of your control. What you were able to control was done extremely well. I am very proud of all that you have done and continue to do. I thank you for working to make AHS even better.

    Graciously,
    McKay
