Minor-injury accident near AHS campus

An AHS student was involved in an accident on 10th and Plum Streets Friday at approximately 8 a.m. “It was a two-vehicle minor-injury accident facing east bound,” said Officer Pekin who arrived on the scene.

The vehicles pulled into the AHS school parking lot to clear the intersection. “She didn’t see me turning,” said the student involved. An ambulance was called to treat the minor injuries.

When an accident occurs near or on AHS campus, Principal McKay comes onto the scene. “I go out and check the scene to see how everyone is,” said McKay. “I then call the police and an ambulance. We call service support for medical and law enforcement as well as the parents if a student is involved. Nurse Mrs. Simpson comes out and helps as well.”

McKay suggests that if in an accident, you should first get your bearings and try to find out if you are hurt. “If you feel injuries right away, you should call for help (911), and if able check on other drivers and passengers,” states McKay. “If the accident occurs on school grounds send someone in need of help or call the office (243-5358).”
